Southfield Public Library
Feb. 16, 2005

Love’s Inferno had just been released when I received a call from one of the nicest lady’s I know. Karen White-Owens. inviting me to join her along with a bunch of other writers at the Southfield Public Library. This was my very first signing, and thanks to Karen and all the people I met that day, it will always be a memorable event!

Over the past year, I’ve developed a tradition of taking along a birthday cake
when I do bookstore signings, announcing the birth of my new babies!

Thank you to Waldenbooks / Borders Express
for so generously supporting new authors.

Idlewild Jazz Fest & Literary Event
Aug. 19th – 21st , 2005

I’m ashamed to admit this but until the Spring of 2005 I’d never heard of Idlewild, MI. A historic resort that once catered to some of the wealthiest and most influential African – Americans in the country!  Their directory once boasted of everyone from Madame C.J. Walker to Joe Louis. And I have the nerve to call myself a history buff!!

In an attempt to re-vitalize the area, the Idlewild Foundation has hosted a Jazz & Literary Festival for the past few years.
To find out more about the Festival and Idlewild itself, visit the Idlewild Foundation website. ( I was recently informed  (2/06) that the Idlewild Jazz Festivals have been suspended due to lack of funding until further notice – what a bummer.)

Me with Emma Rogers, one of the founders of the Slam Jam

For those who do not know, (which included me until last year) the Romance Slam Jam is an annual AA Romance Writers/Readers convention, a chance for authors and readers to mix and mingle. This was my first one, but it definitely will not be my last! This year the event was hosted by the “Sistahfriends Book Club” out of Shreveport, and they did a terrific job keeping us busy and laughing the whole time.

There were workshops during the days and various other activities during the evening, including a casino night, fashion show, poetry reading, Mardi Gras night, and much, much more. Both excellent food and music was provided for our entertainment. I made a lot of new friends, both readers and authors, and met folks I’d only communicated with via email!

Sgt. Tony L. Walker
Home from Iraq
One of my readers sent me these photos from his recent military tour of duty in Iraq. Tony, Thank you for sharing these with me. My heart and prayers go out to all of our soldiers who’ve yet to come home, and the families of those who will never come home. To all the soldiers on their way overseas, may God go with you. Of course, seeing his pictures got me to reminiscing, and thinking about back in the day.
